You'll get invited to our Meetups as soon as they're scheduled!
Who We Are: We are a diverse group of men and women at various stages of the divorce process. The group has been meeting in this location for a year and a half with members coming and going as they have need. It has been a great source of healing for many people.
Time & Place: We meet weekly from 7-9 p.m. in the "Parlor" at Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church, 5441 SE Belmont St., 503-234-6493. Often even the activities start here and we carpool.
Cost: There is no cost for group participation, but the books are important to buy: Workbook ($12), Fisher book ($12), Children's Group workbook ($10). Cost of activities is on your own; some scholarship assistance is available.
Group Resources: We use primarily two resources for our discussion. 1) DivorceCare -- a video series with accompanying workbook. This series has a Christian perspective. 2) Rebuilding When Your Relationship Ends, by Bruce Fisher and Robert Alberti. This is a self-help style of book focused on growing into a whole person after the trauma of divorce. It has no particular religious perspective.
Children: We also have a group at the same time for children ages 5-12. This is a new and growing aspect of our program which we are excited about. We hope to offer something for teens in the future.
Occasional Activities, too: The group really enjoys being together and we organize occasional activities like going to a play, out to dinner, for a walk/hike, dancing, watching fireworks, etc. These activities are driven by the enthusiasm and initiative of group members. We try to post these additional activities, as they come along.
Relationship to Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church: The church sponsors the group, though it is open to people of all faiths and no faith. The Associate Pastor, a survivor of divorce, convenes the group. We do believe that part of becoming a whole person is a spiritual matter and participants are encouraged to explore their own spiritual path to wholeness. The church offers some scholarship help for materials and outings as needed.
